Step 1: Collection Metadata

The first step in the process is to setup the metadata for your NFT collection. This is the information that will show up in your NFT holders wallet’s, on secondary marketplaces, and in other applications that your NFT interacts with. It’s vital that you set this up correctly as changing metadata is not a simple process and will require you to hire an outside developer to update.

There are six fields you need to complete in order to setup your collection’s metadata.

  1. Image Name - this is the name that will show up at the top of Solana wallet.

  2. Description - this is a short text description that explains a bit of information about your project. We recommend less than 300 characters in length.

  3. Collection Website - this should be the main website for your collection. If you do not have a website, you can use a link to a social account or your discord server.

  4. Number of Images to Generate - this is simply how many images you want to have in this collection.

  5. Symbol - this is a short code for your NFT collection. It should be four characters or less. This symbol is not used by many applications, so don’t worry about overthinking it.

  6. Royalties Percentage - this is where you’ll define your NFT collection’s royalty percentage. Royalties are only paid on secondary sales. Secondary marketplaces will look at this metadata to determine royalty payouts on sales.
